No one expects the Go Club!

END WARS

So, this Staple Gun Wars shirt that I put up on teespring will probably not get made. As of this writing, there is only one pre-order.

The good news is that the person who put in the order will not get charged any money!

I'm always curious to see what people want from me in terms of merchandise and what people will actually buy. I think the idea of a shirt inspired by a panel of the comic might sound tempting. Theoretically. And I suppose if I had a stupendously large audience, an in-joke like this would sell. But as a stand alone product that's sort of a one-off joke in a fairly unknown webcomic, I can see why someone would hesitate when it comes time to press that buy button.

I kind of thought that that would be the case, but it doesn't hurt to try, especially when you have so many crowdfunding platforms like teespring. I'll probably revisit teespring at some point when I have an idea for a design that's not so specific. I'd actually like to try some YP logo shirts in different styles, sort of like a band mentality. We'll see.

The other part of the equation is that I'm just not good at the hard sell. I haven't been pounding the pavement making all sorts of annoying noise about this shirt. It just doesn't fit my style. Even when I'm working a convention, I'm much better at just having a conversation with someone than telling them why they should buy my stuff. I suspect that if I was much more of a hard sell person, maybe I'd be able to drum up more interest in this niche thing. But it's just not my style.

Anyway, the campaign will continue over the weekend so if you are still interested, there's time.

MOUSE OVER

Hah hah! The Quad is no place for mercy, Guardian!

PANEL 1

An example of a sexy poster. A topless woman covers her breasts with her arms while she sucks on her pinky. The text reads, "Want to GO? Join the club."

KANE (Caption)

They came out of nowhere with their oversized sexy posters beckoning students to join their ranks.

PANEL 2

A young Kane and a woman point at the large posters that are covering an entire kiosk.

KANE (Caption)

They broke the code covering entire kiosks with their professionally photographed models.

PANEL 3

A sorority girl and a rapper yell at the Resident Life officers. The one sitting at the desk plays with Go pieces in his hand.

KANE (Caption)

A loose coalition of bands, clubs, and greeks was formed to bring our grievances to Resident Life. We had no idea that all the officers were Go aficionados.

PANEL 4

And emblem of a staple gun.

KANE (Caption)

The coalition quickly fell apart and the postering arms race began.

2 Alternatives to the Big Show

Aug.06.14 11:45 am

It's con season which can be kind of a hassle for creators. So here are two alternatives to trying to get into that big show.

BACKEND IS GO!

Jul.23.14 09:21 pm

Big shout out to Erin from Hiveworks for hooking up the new backend! Things work a little differently now. The bloggy blog will still be on the page even when you click over to make a comment on the comic. And there might be some other odds and ends that a slightly different. But overall, things should work like they have been.

YP BACKEND MIGRATION

Jul.23.14 02:18 am

The Hiveworks team is hard at work migrating the YP comic CMS into something less crazy then the Comicpress madness. As a result, you’ll notice a few 404′s if you click around here as well as comments missing on some posts. Those have been sucked into the new system and will be back up once we’re able to finalize the migration. Hopefully, everything will get sorted out soon.

I’ve been meaning to update the website for a while now, but the WordPress/Comicpress combo has too many pieces that I’d need to change in order to refresh everything. There are so many bits that are connected with so many other bits that it’d be like digging for gold to make the changes I want.

The new system is more streamlined which makes things easier for me and actually loads a whole lot faster which makes things easier for you! So please excuse the mess while things are a chugging.
