Working on a stupid little platformer because I’ve always wanted to make games.  Not sure about the black outline.  There’s something about the straight up colors that’s pretty cute.

Definitely outlined, it will make it easier for player to read the frame, gameplay-wise.

Look at the difference between the NES Super mario and the SNES one.

The black outline stands out a lot more

It depends on the background of your plattformer… Bright background -> outline; contrasting background (like dark blue-ish) -> no outline

no outline is cuter, outline will make him easier to see.

Yeah, I think you’re right. I think for gaming, readability is probably more important.

It 100% depends on the background

Peronally, I believe it looks better without outline – as for being able to see, well, people are right, outline is easier. But if you’re using a darker background then it would work, and the legs and ears in particular look much better without the outline.

With the outline. Hands down. (Because you can see it better.)

Did you try outlining in a shade of brown? That wouldn’t be so stark, but would probably still improve visibility.

That’s a good idea. I’ll try that with a few of them.
