Race Washing

I’m not sure “race washing” is a good term for trying to make it seem like you’re not racist. I use “White washing” whenever I refer to movies that recast minority characters as White. But I guess it kind of fits the whole washing thing. Maybe.

Hmm, the opposite of white washing would be dyeing i guess? Doesn’t really sound right, maybe you could call it color coding although that has a completely different meaning out of context…

“Race washing” makes perfect sense to me.

I’m not sure race washing is an okay term here, though it does make sense. Perhaps de-bleaching XD? Hah.

Makes sense to me, kind of like “money laundering”.

HA! That one made me snort!

  • purplelibraryguy

Kind of works with “greenwashing”, which is where companies try to look all eco-friendly even though they totally ain’t.
Of course it’s a bit unfair to Steve (not that I mind being unfair to Steve) because the connotation is more like “Making someone who’s actually racist look like they’re not” when as far as we know Steve actually not being racist is one of his few redeeming features.

  • Israel Harris

I have a theory why Steve is not a racist.. but I don’t know if I should mention it.. It’s kinda mind blowing but Jamie could end up having something completely different in mind…. So all I do is red herring the audience. Which is why I don’t wanna say it even if it’s a pretty good theory in my mind.

Just got the joke in the alt-text. Sweet.
