A handful of people asked for a print of the colored splash page of Ally catching Annie. So I thought I’d do a limited edition high quality print (maybe like 10 or 20 or something along those lines). The only question is, do I print it with or without the words? The piece was laid out for dialog, but I can easily remove it.

So, quick poll, which one looks better?

With or Without Words

  • Without (72%, 126 Votes)
  • With (28%, 50 Votes)

It’s nowhere near as cute without the dialog, although I appear to be in a minority on that point.

I can honestly see it either way. I know that might not help your decision…but both really do work. So don’t stress on it too much?

Wow! yeah, I just put the poll up at midnight and it seems like without is winning by a whole mess. If that’s the case, I might crop it so it’s more centered.

without, then i get to imagine what they’re saying or not saying.

  • Watson

Don’t crop it! It looks great.

Are you able to do both? Like, take actual preorders specified for with and without words. I figure if someone’s paying for it, they should take their preference? But if it’s an either/or situation, then without.

Hmm… that’s an idea. For now it’s an either/or. But if the voting is too close, I might do both. Right now, it’s not close at all.

Without looks better because it makes the image a better whole, but I do so love the text.

I think it’d be cool if it showed what they said right after that moment, haha. Just sayin’ ! Love your stuff by the way. :)

I think as a print (IE something you are likely to post on a wall of a house or studio) it works better without the text. As part of the comic, it of course is better WITH the text.

Yeah I feel like the text gives it a little more playful tone, especially with the squiggly links between the bubbles.
