Under Represented

Sexy Kung Fu Chefs is a comic that I would buy.

Panel one depicts the exterior of my favorite comic shop in the whole wide world, Big Planet Comics in Bethesda. I don’t get out there nearly enough and it’s been ages since I had a subscription there, but it was my very first comic shop and will always be my favorite. It’s changed a lot since high school. They stock significantly more graphic novels and trade paperbacks than single floppies which I think is a great idea. And they have an excellent selection of indy books which is food for thought since I will soon be a publisher of an indy comic. The owner, Joel, is a great guy and still remembers me after all these years even if it’s months between visits. I should really get out there more often.

In other news, if you’ve been following my Tumblr, you will have seen many iterations of the cover. I’m still working on the blasted thing and it’s all down to Kane’s face. It’s not quite right just yet, but it’s so fucking close. I’m hoping to get this shit done very very soon so I can send it all out to the printers this week so I can get the book in hand well before SPX. Cross your fingers, folks. This shit has been driving me fucking insane!

While I still worked practically across the street from that comic shop I bought several things from there while on my break, including Kick Ass, a Neil Gaiman story collection (it was a present, so I never got to keep it), and a other stuff. Too bad Ben & Jerry’s ice cream isn’t across the street from it anymore; I liked going there after buying comics.

Yeah, I was really surprised to see it close down. Ben & Jerry’s was always crowded whenever I walked past. Very sad.

  • Ashiyama

If he wants drag-queens in comics, he should read more manga!

  • W.Wong

I actually burst out laughing on the punchline in the last panel. Kudos Jamie. :D

What Ashiyama said. Man, Kaikan Phrase has a starring role drag who is rumored in the story to have been a producer for Kurt Cobain.

Also, Bodie’s outburst comes out of nowhere. He’s always so chill. What’s up with that?

I concur. Sexy Kung Fu Chefs are both underrepresented, and I would totally buy that. Twice, even.

There is Always Neil Gaiman’s “Dollhouse” and “The Kindly Ones,” but those are small roles.

    Does Tip count?

Tip falls more into the Wholesome Crossdresser category/trope. He’s still very much the Hetero, even if he doesn’t exactly dress the part. (Although, in the current storyline, he may try swinging the other way, so to speak.)
